Its victory to Green Power as predicted by the New Energy Outlook 2016 report from Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
Transformation and decarbonisation of the world’s power systems is now on in full swing and by 2040, zero-emission energy sources such as wind and solar will account for over 60% of the 8.6TW of new power generating capacity added worldwide over the next 25 years.
Electric cars will see a boom, accounting for 35% of new light-duty vehicle sales in 2040, a whopping 90 times the 2015 figure!
Seb Henbest, head of Europe, Middle East and Africa for BNEF, and lead author of NEO 2016, commented: “Some $7.8 trillion will be invested globally in renewables between 2016 and 2040, two thirds of the investment in all power generating capacity.”
All this and more could ensure we come in alignment with the United Nations 2°C climate target in good time!
Positive News. Always.
